The pouch cell offers a simple, flexible and lightweight solution to LiB design. They are available in various sizes and shapes. The most common laminate pouch cell material consists of an aluminum foil between two polymer layers. The aluminum foil is intended to function as a barrier against all permeation, including water diffusion. The outside polymer layer works as a mechanical protection and the inner polymer as a chemical protection. The inner polymer layer often consists of polypropylene (PP) while the outer polymer layer often consists of polyamide (PA) and/or PET.
